I was having loads of fun exploring around, even switching out my loadout to do some of the surveillance/spy missions earlier on in the game. Turrets are remote-controlled (although i removed them to get more outfit space), i can fly super far and super fast, and i can happily do everything from VIP to prisoner transports, haul cargo, smuggle drugs, you name it. I love the Bounder - it's the perfect ship for me.

My original approach to playing the game was that i don't want any ship that requires crew, because i don't want to be on the hook for paying wages (or a mortgage for that matter - i paid that off in full as soon as possible). Though I end up with a battle fleet even if I am careful. It was more based on that you have one ship, a medium sized ship that can take a small beating and as a poster said before an Argosy or Pirate Argosy is the ship you should have by the time you start the story. It's a real disappointment to be honest, i hoped after investing 10+ hours i'd be able to progress the story without constantly being forced into attritional combat. It turns from a fun and relaxing game that feels more economic and political into a full-blown shoot'em'up. And when i bought a few wingmen to protect me, they pretty much all got trashed too, because once the war and arms race starts, you get attacked by epic warships no matter what you do. My fast ship with no guns on it at all was suddenly no longer useful, because the missions specifically involved having to destroy enemy fleets. There is a certain point in the game where you are forced into massive battles.

Start with 1, end up with 20, then later end up with 200 more.Īnd yes trading if given the right modifications so that trading is easier, the game really gives you a snow ball effect. I already have a problem not going over 3 ships in a fleet.

Was more about how the main story of the game seemed to be based on you the PC and player, having only a single ship over building a fleet. strike breakers), which can also give a nice boost to your income.Īnd other parts of the galaxy will provide much better trading or passenger transporting opportunities! Capture pirate ships also this tends to work like a snowball, with a bigger / stronger fleet allowing you to capture bigger / stronger ships, etc.Īdd to this the occasional haul of large groups of people willing to pay a premium to travel (e.g. It's a bit of a snowball effect that starts slow, but once you've built a bit of a fleet, you can expand quite fast Just buy enough offensive ships to avoid attracting too much pirate attention, or switch to versatile ships like Mules.

Upgrade to the biggest trading vessel, then as soon as you can, buy another, etc. Originally posted by noctilucus:For what it's worth, the 2 main ways to gain new ships and build a fleet are:
